French Toast
From the kitchen of

Making classic French toast involves dipping slices of bread into a sweetened, spiced custard and pan-cooking them until golden brown.
For the best results, use thick-cut, bread like Texas Toast.

Ingredients:  (Serves 2-3)

Bread: 4-6 slices (thick-cut)

Eggs: 2 large

Milk: 1/2 cup (whole milk for richness)

Vanilla: 1 teaspoon

Cinnamon: 1/2 teaspoon

Salt: A pinch

Butter: 2-3 tablespoons for pan cooking

Optional: 1 tablespoon sugar in the mixture, 1/4 cup flour for added thickening

Instructions:

1. Prep the Batter: In a shallow bowl or dish, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until well blended.

2. Heat the Pan: Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat and add 1-2 tablespoons of butter.

3. Dip the Bread into the mixture, allowing it to soak for about 5–15 seconds per side (depending on bread thickness). It should be fully saturated but not falling apart.

4. Cook: Place the bread in the hot skillet. Cook for 2–3 minutes on each side until golden brown.

5. Serve hot with butter, maple syrup, fresh berries, or powdered sugar.

Tips for Success:

Use Stale Bread: Stale or toasted bread absorbs the custard better without becoming soggy.
Don't Rush the Cook: Keep the heat at medium-low to ensure the center gets custard-like without burning the outside.
Keep Warm: If cooking for a crowd, keep cooked slices warm on a wire rack in a 200°F (95°C) oven.

Optional Add-ins: Add a dash of nutmeg or a splash of rum for extra flavor.
